In the current study, the effect of usage of caraway powder and its essential oils at the dose of 0.2% (w/w) were studied on colon cancer prevention induced by dimethyl hydrazine (DMH) through the estimation of biochemical parameters including catalase (CAT) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) enzymes, glutathione (GSH), lipid peroxidation (LP) and ferric reducing ability of plasma (FRAP) as well as histopathological changes. The results showed that the levels of GSH and FRAP were increased and SOD activity was decreased by DMH. Even though caraway powder and its essential oils failed to alter the tested biochemical parameters, histopathological analysis indicated improved effects in carcinogenesis. Therefore, the results demonstrated that the chemopreventive effects of the treatments were due to the other metabolic pathways than oxidative stress/antioxidant systems.

Bioleaching is the biological conversion of an insoluble metal compound to form soluble in water which was influenced by several parameters. One of the important microorganisms involved in the uranium bioleaching process, is Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans. Based on the importance and the effects of environmental parameters in the uranium bioleaching process and bacterial activity, the aim of this study is to obtain the optimal values of 5 important parameters in the process of uranium bioleaching. For this purpose, the natives Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans, APH medium and the ore from Anomali 2 of Saghand in Yazd used and different parameters affecting on the uranium extraction, including shaking, pH, temperature, pulp density, and initial ferrous iron concentration were studied at different levels. The results of this study indicated that the maximum yields of uranium extraction and Eh values were observed at 150rpm, pH= 2, temperature 35 ° C, PD=5% (w/v) and 10 g/L of [FeSO4.7H2O].

In this study, the protective effects of an herbal drug known as STW 5 (Iberogast®) -in dose dependent manner- on oxidative lung damages in rats induced by experimental sepsis was assessed. For this purpose, the rats were divided into six groups: Sham-operated (SOP); CLP; CLP + STW 5 (2.5, 5 &10 mg/kg) and CLP + Indomethacin (positive control). The drugs were injected i.p immediately after sepsis induction and the lung tissues were examined histophatologically 24 hour after CLP. Based on the qualitative and quantitative histological data, it was found that induction of sepsis was associated with extensive infiltration and sequestration of PMN and also high histologic index of the severity of lung injury. In compare to Indomethacin, the treatment of rats with STW5 did not improve these parameters. The data shows that STW 5 cannot modulate pathological parameters leading to lung damages in CLP rat model
