In present study whole plant extract was achieved by maceration for effective components, evaluation of antioxidant activity and total phenol and flavonoid for six Stellaria species and its close relatives comprising Myosoton aquaticum and Mesostemma kotschyanum (Caryophyllaceae, Alsinoides). Phenolic and flavonoid contents were measured by Foline-ciocalteu and Aluminum chloride methods. Results indicated that there are significant differences between average content of phenolic and flavonoid compounds and antioxidant activity in different species (P< 0.01). Observations showed that total phenolic components of eight studied species are between 1±0.028 to 8.18±0.69mgr. /gr. dry weight and total flavonoid contents between 1±0.026 to 6.7±0.59 mgr./gr. in dry weight. Most inhibitory activity of DPPH free radical was observed in S. alsinoides with IC50 equal to 3 ±0.1 mgr. /ml in dry weight

The genus Prosopis with 3 indigenous species as P. cineraria P. koelziana, P. farcta (with 2 varieties) and one introduced species )P. juliflora) are valuable plants of Mimosoideae in Iran. Anatomical studies mainly considered wood features of Prosopis species. In the present project anatomical structure of leaf rachis in Prosopis species in Iran was studied. The objective of this study was to evaluate the taxa relationships based on anatomical features of leaf axis. By use of multivariate statistical analysis of 15 qualitative and quantitative anatomical features, observed variation in 37 accessions of Prosopis species in Iran were evaluated. Factor analysis, Cluster analysis and ordination were done. Despite morphological similarities between P. cineraria and P. juliflora some rachis anatomical features are of diagnostic value in species separation. Maximum anatomical similarities were observed in two P. farcta varieties (var. farcta and var. glabra). Results of statistical analyses revealed that Prosopis species are clearly distinguished by leaf rachis cross sections.

Prosopis (Fabaceae) is one of Mimosoideae genera with 4 native and cultivated taxa with edible and forage importance in Iran. Seeds of Mesquite comprise a great amount of protein and sugar compounds. In this project electrophoretic characteristics of seed proteins of four species of Prosopis in Iran as P. cineraria, P. farcta, P. juliflora and P. koelziana were studied by collecting five accessions from nature. The aim of this study was to define the diagnostic value of seed protein electrophoretic data in species separation and taxonomy in Iran. By use of SDS-PAGE method totally 22 bands were achieved. Data was analyzed and evaluated by multivariate statistical methods. It is the first seed protein electrophoretic study for Prosopis species in Iran and for P. farcta (both varieties) and P.koelziana in the world. Seed storage protein profiles were studied and species separation was confirmed. Seed stored Albumin was studied for the first time in Prosopis farcta var. farcta, P. farcta var. glabra and P. juliflora. There were differences in electrophoretic profiles of two varieties. P. juliflora represented a separate position from other taxa. P. koelziana show more similarities to P. juliflora in seed storage protein profiles. Diagnostic value of electrophoretic data is discussed.
